(Italy/Finland) Personal content storage for Sonera Customers
Sonera will offer more advanced services to their customers with NETikos mobile internet solution, called LiteWeb. It provides storage for multiple types of files, including MMS, PowerPoint slide shows and holiday photographs, and enables a subscriber to send MMS and SMS messages from a mobile phone to their own storage album on the web, where they can easily organise and forward content. (USA) PWLAN US Market to Generate $1.63 Billion by 2007
According to research from the Yankee Group, the US public WLAN Market will generate $1.63 billion in annual service revenues by 2007. This new Yankee Group study forecasts that the revenue opportunity it represents are a relatively small percentage of total carrier revenues and the long-term cannibalization of traffic from 3G to PWLAN systems will be minimal. (UK) Wireless-LAN partnership for Telia and BT Openzone
Telia has signed a roaming agreement for public W-LAN with BT Openzone, to provide customers with Telia HomeRun subscriptions with use of BT Openzone's wireless network at hotspots including selected hotels and conference centres around the United Kingdom. BT Openzone's subscribers will, in return, gain access to 480 sites where Telia offers its HomeRun wireless broadband service. BT Openzone is curently offers wireless broadband service at 37 selected hotspots in the U.K., but expects to be able to offer 70 hotspots by year-end, 400 by June 2003, and 4,000 by 2005. (Germany) T-Mobile Germany rolls out wireless WLAN
T-Mobile Germany has launched a Wireless LAN service in Germany called "HotSpots by T-Mobile". It is free for everyone to use until the end of the year and will target business customers, with locations including Muenster International Airport and Ramada hotels in other major cities. (USA) Wireless for Dell notebooks
Dell has announced plans to add dual-band Wi-Fi networking technology to their Latitude business notebooks by the end of 2003 and anticipates around a $50 reduction for their network access points. (USA) Audio & Video for Mobiles due out next year
A media encoder aimed at the mobile phone industry is being planned by RealNetworks and Envivio, which will allow the creation of audio and video files that can be played on mobile handsets. Joint Venture will enhance handheld video quality
NeoMagic Corporation has joined forces with PacketVideo, to enhance the video quality on current and next-generation handheld devices, including PDAs and mobile phones. An updated version of ClassInHand software, which transform wireless enabled PocketPCs into web servers, presentation controllers, and question and answer devices. This makes it suitable for classroom instructors as it enables them to move freely around the classroom. Classroom trials are currently underway.
