Europe - Mobile data services to grow in popularity
The mobile data market is forecast to grow to up to Euro23 bil in 2003, vs Euro323 mil in 2000, according to Booz, Allen + Hamilton, consultant. By 2005, mobile operators are expected to be generating 35% of their turnover from mobile Internet and messaging services, vs only 7% at present, according to Gartner. The main requirement for the further development of the mobile data market is successful technology. WAP technology was the first to emerge, although 85% of owners of WAP-enabled handsets found them too complicated to use, according to Meta Group. Both Gartner and Booz, Allen + Hamilton believe that GPRS technology will make the breakthrough within the mobile data market. (see article)
