t-learning Case Studies - Inventors Memory Game, Finland

The Finnish Public Service Broadcaster YLE has produced an interactive Memory Game for its Digital Terrestrial platform on YLE Teema – the education and culture channel. The Memory Game is linked to a series of programmes about Finnish inventors. The interactive game is available on the same day as a programme is broadcast until the evening of the next day. The player can pair cards - Finnish inventors with their inventions. For each game that is played a random set of pairs appears from a larger group. Although a relatively simple game it does encourage active participation of viewers thus adding value to the TV programmes that would tend to be watched rather passively.

Finland has adopted the MHP (Multimedia Home Platform) for its set-top boxes but due to their lack of availability there are very few subscribers of the digital terrestrial service. This has slowed down the development of interactive services.
