Project
As part of the developments
towards more personalised advertising eventually on TV as we more towards
personalised TV we have set up a
web-based commercial project to see how people will use and react to
advertisements focused around particular areas of interest or communities of
interest. It is based on the notion that advertisements are not intrusive if
people are actively looking for products and services.
As an action research project we
are exploring ways as how to engage people with advertisements in order to
supply people with their needs and wants. The bottom line is not people buy
products and services from the methods that we are using.
We are using a number of
different methods to attract people. This ranges from simply a web page full
of various attractive looking adverts to using blogs and RSS feeds. The
first stage is to attract people, but the second stage is to engage them and
retain them in order to make them feel they can come to a trusted source for
information about various products and services. We are utilising affiliate
scheme mechanisms in order to track the responses to the various approaches.
The lessons learnt from this
work we hope to apply to personalised TV as it develops through the
utilisation of IPTV.
There is just one website
just4adverts but the idea is that
it can be reached from a number of different viewpoints are perspectives.
For example people in the UK would could reach it from
just4adverts.co.uk.
However, most people would reach it from their own areas of interest. So far
we have focused around particular types of products or services - the
traditional way. However, we have plans to organise around specific themes
or "journeys" in order to identify the most effective methods.
