Personalised TV
- New Business Opportunities
Developing Sustainable
Business Models
A recent
report (June 2005) by the US
Cable & Telecommunications Association for
Marketing (CTAM) considers that
consumers are ready for next level of interactive television
services. The successful launches of
first-level interactive services like video-on-demand and digital video
recorders has resulted in consumers craving additional services that
simplify their daily lives.
Since the beginning of 2005
Broadband TV through
IPTV now
appears to be taking off across the world. It is being driven by
the telecom companies who are keen to increase their
ARPU in particular by
developing video on
demand (VOD) services onto normal televisions in the home.
However, as
services develop the user will be able to access more than just movies or
films on demand. It fact, the TV will develop into a Personalised TV
experience that each user will be able to customise for their personal
interests - related around their
communities
of interest.
Applications like "eBay on TV" already exist
for bidding in auctions via TV. It is also possible to watch TV with your
remote friends and family whilst voice chatting over the TV with personal
avatars. You can also use your TV for word processing and other applications
if you don't have a PC.
An
on-going poll by IPTV-news readers consider that personalised content
for micro audiences will be a key driver of IPTV.

pjb Associates has been involved in these
developments for several years and can advise companies and
organisations in both the private and public sectors (particularly
e-government, e-health and e-learning) what new applications are emerging
and how they might be used as solutions for your specific
needs whether it be for increasing revenues through value-added services
with sustainable business models or creating new sustainable application for
meeting social needs.
