TRENDS

The TRENDS (TRaining Educators through Networks and Distributed Systems) project aims at the in-service training of 2,400 school teachers in Secondary Education on the "use of Information Technology and Telematics in the learning process", from six of the participating countries Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal, France and the United Kingdom.

The training will be implemented by flexible and distance learning methods, through the development and use of an in-service, school-based training system, which will be based on multimedia telematics and existing, mature network technologies. A common aspect of all the six national groups will be a 30-40 hour course aimed at cultivating positive attitudes to IT, acquiring knowledge on basic IT and telematic issues, understanding their educational potential, developing capabilities for effectively using them in the curriculum and the classroom.

There will also be the establishment and operation of a European Teachers’ Training Network, consisting of six interconnected national sites, each acting as a service provider to the schools and teachers.

During the Trends project 120 teachers, one from each of the participating schools, will be trained, in the early validation phase. These teachers will become the trainers of the rest of the 2,400 teachers during the demonstration phase of the project.
